Michael was the youngest of 14 children.
He was a very good photographer.
(Conversation with my grandmother, Mary (Martin) Pacheco on October 27,1996 in her house):
Michael and Mary Pacheco lived in Kaimuki, Oahu, HI in 1942. It was approx 25 miles from Pearl Harbor Naval Station. Mary had hung laundry on the line on Saturday, Dec. 6. Early on Sunday morning, she was getting ready to take the clothes in because "the sky became black, and we thought it was going to rain". They began to hear "thunder". Mary came back inside and Michael turned on the radio, to hear the first reports of the Japanese attack underway on Pearl Harbor.
Michael was employed with the Civil Service as a stevedore. He was working with a crew on an unknown pier in December of 1942. The crew was scheduled to be transferred to Pearl Harbor. The radio announcements were ordering all men who worked at Pearl Harbor to return to the base immediately.
Mary's brother, Ralph Martin, was at Pearl Harbor during the attack. Japanese aircraft also shot at the streets of Kaimuki and were bombing cars that were traveling on the Pali Highway. The Pali was a small, windy two lane road between the east and west side of the island. | Pacheco, Miguel Caravalho (I196)
