A question about Streator namesake Dr. Worthy S. Streator led to today's "Ask the Times" question and also to the feature story about Dr. Streator that appears today on page B-1.

But, it turns out that Larry Majercin, who posed the question about when and where Streator died, needed the information to cap his own biography about Dr. Streator, which is now posted on the free online encyclopedia Wikipedia at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Worthy_S._Streator.

The biography has been on Majercin's list of things to finish since 2005.

"But I would say sometime in August or September I really started to work on updating the article on Streator, Illinois, itself -- it was really pretty threadbare," Majercin told The Times on Sunday.

"And then I just started expanding on that and I realized there was nothing at all on Dr. Streator. So this is a brand new article."

So for the past month Majercin focused on Streator the man.

His interest in things Streator is somewhat unexpected when you realize Majercin lives in Eugene, Ore., and has never been to Streator.

"But I do have tons of family who are still there. My father was born and raised in Danville. He moved to San Diego where I was born and raised."

Majercin's association with Streator comes from family genealogy work.

"I've kind of adopted Streator as my second hometown, I guess."

Majercin said his Wikipedia work on Streator was a way of thanking all the people from Streator over the years who have helped him with his genealogy work.

"But being removed from the Streator area I didn't have access to a library I could have gone to where I could find out about him."

So, almost everything he found was located online. From those sources he gleaned a pretty complete picture of Streator's life, which he finished last week and submitted to Wikipedia.

Majercin's biography features many more facts than were located by The Times in a two-day search.

* Majercin was able to confirm through his reseach that Dr. Streator and Ralph Plumb, a Streator mayor and guiding force in the town's development, were first cousins.
