Obituary for Marie McCumsey

Marie McCumsey (1917-2003)

Marie L. McCumsey, 85, of 411 W. Grant St., died at 6:08 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2003, at St. Mary?s Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Hagi Funeral Home. The Rev. Mark Canada, pastor of Hope United Methodist Church, will officiate.

Music will be by organist Grace Teach. Grandson Michael McCumsey will sing ?How Great Thou Art.? Other songs will include ?Beyond the Sunset.?

Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Brad, Randy, Michael and Brian McCumsey; and Jerry Kahanec and Jerry Cook.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Born Aug. 5, 1917, in Streator, she was the daughter of Peter and Rose (Kolb) Wahl. She married Virgil C. McCumsey on Aug. 25, 1935, in Streator. He died June 1, 2001.

Surviving are a daughter, Sheryl (Mrs. Terry) Soule of Sharpsburg, Ga.; sons, Virgil ?Skip? (Helen) McCumsey and Lee (Sandy) McCumsey, both of Streator, and Roger A. McCumsey of Newnan, Ga.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and sisters, Pauline (Mrs. James) Laue, Beatrice (Mrs. George) Sopko and Martha (Mrs. Russell) Hillenbrand, all of Streator.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Loretta Wahl, Dorothy Bloomquist, Frances Gaede, Catherine Haar and Viola Werner; and brothers, Clarence, Lawrence, William and Ronald Wahl.

She attended Streator grade schools and Streator High School.

She had been employed at Super Dairy, Bordens Dairy, Ford Hopkins Drugstore and the Bullshead Restaurant at Lostant.

She was a member of Hope United Methodist Church and a former member of Eagles Aerie #645 Auxiliary.

Memorials may be directed to her church.
