Mary Salve Obituary

Mary B. Salve
Sept. 8, 1938 - Feb. 16, 2018
Mary Barbara Salve, age 79, passed away in the early morning of Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, surrounded with love by family after a courageous 10-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Mary was born in Oregon City, the youngest of eight children to Louie and Mathilda Amstad Blaser. She grew up in Sherwood and graduated high school from Holy Child Academy. She met Maurice Kelly Salve at Yaw's Drive-In Restaurant in Portland where she worked as a waitress; they were married Sept. 10, 1960 at St. Rose Catholic Church. Mary was a great support to her husband during his graduate studies in social work. She was a homemaker and devoted mother to their two sons. She worked on and off for 20 years at Omark (Blount Intl.) as a production clerk. They were both active at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, serving as Eucharistic ministers for a period of time. They were parishioners there for 40 years.
Mary was an outstanding cook and a warm, welcoming hostess. She was happiest when baking and cooking for family and friends, celebrating birthdays and holidays with them and gardening. She enjoyed collecting recipes and cookbooks; swapping recipes and gardening tips with her sisters and sister-in-law, Ellie; sewing and canning. Her family has many fond memories of Mary cooking and baking their favorite dishes, especially on birthdays and holidays. Their home was always decorated nicely and festively for holidays, especially Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter.
Mary lived life with a deep faith in a loving God. She gave much love, compassion and kindness to everyone. She will be greatly missed by those who call her wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, grandma and friend.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Joseph, Benedict and Fern Thomas Blaser. She is survived by her adoring husband, Kelly; her firstborn, Antony; her second son, Rick and his wife, Julia; her sisters, Kay and Louise Blaser, Helen McManigal and Margaret Popham; sister-in-law, Eloise Blaser; sister-in-law, Sylvia and husband, Robert Holland; her seven nieces and four nephews; and her only grandchild whom she adored, six year old, Michael Salve (Rick and Julia's child).
A funeral is planned for 12 p.m., Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 10955 S.E. 25th Ave., Milwaukie, OR 97222. Reception will follow Mass at the Saalfeld Room. Tualatin-Sherwood Rd., Tualatin, OR 97062, or remembrances may be made to SJB Catholic School or Church, 10956 S.E. 25th Ave. Private burial will be in Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
