Obituary for Richard "Dick" Adams

Richard "Dick" Adams - 1930-2007

STREATOR - Richard J. "Dick" Adams, 77, of 307 Palmer St., Streator, died at 1:54 a.m. Monday, March 26, 2007, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, Ill.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Streator. Monsignor Jerome Ham will officiate. Music will be provided by Melissa Peters, organist, who will accompany Carolyn Blasco, soloist.

Cremation rites will be accorded following the services. Private burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery at a later date. There will be no visitation. Family will receive friends for a luncheon following the services at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Streator.

Arrangements were handled by Solon, Baker & Telford Funeral Home in Streator.

Born Jan. 29, 1930, in Pipestone, Minn., he was the son of Clarence and Margaret (McCaffrey) Adams. He married Marlene Mayerchin on May 9, 1953, at St. Anthony Church in Streator. She survives in Streator.

Also surviving are a daughter, Peggy (Jerry) Miller of Streator; and a son, Michael R. Adams of Streator; grandchildren, Jeremy (Jessica) Adams, Michael R. Adams, Justin Miller and Jessica Miller; brothers, Neil (Annie) Adams of Hot Springs Village, Ark., and Robert Adams of Channahon, Ill.

Mr. Adams was born in Minnesota and relocated to Leonore over 60 years ago. He lived in the Leonore and Streator area his lifetime.

He attended Sts. Peter and Paul Grade School in Leonore and graduated from Streator Township High School, class of 1948. He served in the United States Navy from 1948 to 1952 during the Korean conflict.

Through the years he worked at Owens Illinois Glass Company and retired from G.E. Plastics in 1994.

He was a member of St. Anthony Church, Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council No. 790, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492 and the Cardiac Rehab at St. Mary's Hospital.

Pallbearers will be Neil J. Adams, David Peterson, Edward Mollo, Dale A. Spencer, Donald Adams and Shannon Bever.

Dick enjoyed family card games, family vacations, old tractors, old cars and his many friends.

Memorials may be directed to the Knights of Columbus driveway fund.
