"Jack" Urbance, 86, of Streator, died at 9:14 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital, Streator. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. A vigil service will be at 4 p.m. The rosary will be recited at 6:45 p.m. Burial will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Streator. Pallbearers will be William Darrow, Bob Muntz, Jim Muhlstadt, Charles Van Grevenhof, Glen Hepner and Dan Stith. Honorary pallbearers will be Anna Urbance and Rosie Darrow. Members of the Monsignor George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council 790 will serve as honorary pallbearers. Born Dec. 7, 1924, in Streator, he was the son of John and Emma (Kaluza) Urbance. He married Mary Hudak on June 22, 1948, at St. Stephen's Church. She survives in Streator. Also surviving are daughters, Mary (William) Darrow of Streator and Jeanne Urbance of Bloomington; sons, John (Lisa Nagler) Urbance of Battle Creek, Mich., and Ronald Urbance of Streator; grandchildren, William Darrow, Rosie Darrow and Anna Urbance; and one sister, Florence Urbance of Ottawa. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Raymond Urbance and a sister, Virginia Calhoun. Born and raised in Streator Jack attended St. Stephen's Grade School and Streator High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He owned and operated Jo Ann's Apparel Shop in Streator until his retirement in 1987. He was a former member of St. Stephen's Church and currently a member of St. Michael the Archangel Church. He also belonged to Monsignor George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council 790 and the Streator Chamber of Commerce. Memorials may be directed to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Link to Times-Press obituary.
