Arasimowicz, 59, of Fishers Island died Friday night at Uncas-On-Thames in Norwich where he had been a patient since May 7. Born October 9, 1921 on the island, he was the son of Sylvester and Anna Zionkowska Arasimowicz. He last worked as a painter for the William Faulkner Construction Co. on Fishers Island. Prior to that he had worked as a laboratory technician for Merck, Sharpe and Dohem Dohme, a drug company in Montreal, where he had been employed for 23 years, retiring in 1978. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of Our Lady of Grace Church, the American Legion, Fishers Island post; Canadian Legion; the Fishers Island Fire Department and the Fishers Island Lobster Association. He married Waltraud Kupka June 27, 1953 in Berlin, Germany. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Airman 1C James Arasimowicz with the Army Air Force at Ellsworth S.D.; a daughter, Dorit Beauchamp of Verdun, Canada; two brothers, John of Fishers Island and Theodore Arasimowicz of Wethersfield; three sisters, Sophie Parquette, Ann Wall and Melen Zito, all of Fishers Island; and two grandchildren. There will be a 9 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Grace Church. Burial will be in New St. John Cemetery on the island. Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Thomas L. Neilan and Sons Funeral Home in New London. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Fishers Island Fire Department.
