FISHERS ISLAND

John J. Arasimowicz, also known as John J. Chestnut, 76, of Fishers Island, died Thursday at his home.

 He was born Jan. 27, 1913 in New Britain, the son of Sylvester and Anna Zionkowska Arasimowicz.

 Mr. Arasimowicz was a retired caretaker for the Reynolds-Dupont family on Fishers Island.

 A veteran of World War II, he served with the Navy and the Merchant Marine. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church and the Fishers Island Fire Department and a life member of the American Legion.

 He married the former Tomassina Oliveri Feb. 11, 1968, in New London.

 Other survivors include a brother, Theodore Arasimowicz of Wethersfield; and two sisters, Melen Zito and Ann Wall, both of Fishers Island.

 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Grace Church. Burial will be in New St. John's Cemetery. The Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, New London, is in charge of the arrangememnts.

 Donations may be made in his memory to the Fishers Island Fire Department or the Fishers Island Sea Stretcher.
