Janice M. Thiems 1941-2011

HIGHLAND - Janice M. Thiems, 70, of Highland, died Wednesday, Dec. 21, at St. Joseph Hospital in Highland.

Janice was born Aug. 12, 1941, to Louis and Evelyn (Tutko) Majerchin, in Streator. On Jan. 26, 1963, she married Carmon D. Thiems in Streator.

She retired in 2003 as the director at Peppermint School in Highland. During her time there she was known by the children as "Miss Janice."

She is survived by her husband, Carmon D. Thiems of Highland; one daughter, Christy (Tom) Skallas of Orland Park; two grandchildren, Alexandra and Anastasia Skallas; two brothers, Louis (Susan) Majerchin of Centralia and Kenneth (Ann) Maynard of Hermosa Beach, Calif.; and three nephews and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Evelyn Majerchin.

Memorials may be made to the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Meridith Funeral Home, Highland, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Evangelical United Church of Christ, Highland. Funeral services will beat 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec, 28, at Evangelical United Church of Christ, Highland, with the Rev. Chris Hill, senior pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Highland City Cemetery.
